The Miracle of Jean Marie Adam

Uxbridge, Worcester, Massachusetts 1987
Jean Marie Adam was at home watching the Celtics play the Lakers in the championship series of 1987. The game was in California so it lasted until 1am. He fell asleep in his chair until 2am when his wife Ann (Blodgett) woke him up and told him to come to bed.

Stumbling around in the dark, he had forgotten he had left the cellar door open. The cellar door is located in the floor under the stairs and has to be muscled up by rope to open the door. Not being able to see well and still groggy from being half asleep, he stepped into the open doorway and fell to the bottom of the stairs hitting his head pretty violently.

His daughter Donna, who was a student in the medical field at the time, happened to be spending the night at his house. Jean's wife Anne had heard the commotion and knew what happened, so she called out to Donna for help. Donna rushed downstairs, and between the two of them, they helped him crawl on all fours to the top of the stairs where they waited for the ambulance.

The ambulance first took him to Milford Hospital, but because they didn't have a CAT Scan machine, they put him in another ambulance and rushed him to Wellesley Hospital in Newton. He was badly bruised but no worse for the wear.

One year later, while bowling in the New England Championships his body started to shake and he started to feel pain in his muscles. He couldn't finish the set he was bowling as he was overcome with illness. The pain was getting worse by the day, so he decided to schedule an appointment to see a neuroligist.

He went to the Neurologist who performed muscle tests, CAT-Scans, took blood samples, muscle tissue samples, and a numerous amount of other tests at the time. Over a period of 2 months he visited the neurologist, and went through vigorous testing each time to see where he was at with the progression of the disease.

His neurologist gave him the bad news after one of his exams, that he had the incurable disease called ALS or "Lou Gehrig's Disease". He continued his visits to keep tabs on the disease and its progression. His doctor told him he was on schedule for where the disease was supposed to be at the time. He started losing muscle mass at an alarming rate. You could see holes in his arms and on his body where the muscles had caved in.

Jean Marie bought a Nordic Track unit, which is a skiing excercise machine, in the hopes he could prolong the inevitable. He worked through excruciating pain in his workouts each and every day. He was diligent in keeping up with his exercise routine. His workouts would last 30 minutes at a time, which for you and me is a long time.

At that time, Jean's daughter Nancy (McAnnich), had a husband that found out he was battling an aggressive form of cancer which had spread throughout most of his body when it was detected. He was diagnosed as terminal with only a few months to live. Her husband Bill and her had tried every form of modern medicine known at the time. Although he fought the best he could, the cancer just overwhelmed his body.

After Bill's passing, Nancy took a trip to Yugoslavia, where visions of the Blessed Virgin were seen at the time, to pray for her husband and her father. While she was there, she herself saw a vision of the Virgin Mary, dropped to her knees and prayed to her, asking her to spare her father. She said she had just lost her husband and she couldn't bare to lose her father too. She asked the Virgin Mary to please spare her father.

At that very moment in time when she had the vision, Jean Marie at home in the states, was thrown from where he sleeps on the right side of the bed to the floor on the left side of the bed. He remembers waking up on the floor and not being able to move a muscle. His wife and his daughter Donna, who was spending the night at the time, helped get him back in bed and massaged and worked his muscles to help regain partial movement back in his body.

Donna went to work the next day, and spent her lunch time talking to a bunch of doctor friend's about her father's condition. One of them had expressed interest in taking a look at him in the near future. The very next day, Jean Marie, went to see the new doctor and developed quite a good friendship and relationship with him. He would see him every week for 6-8 weeks, where he again would be put through a variety of tests to mark the diseases progression. The doctor was very thorough and meticulous in determining the status of his patients health. He ran every test available to him at the time.

On his last appointment before Christmas, the doctor came in at the end of the testing, and told him he didn't know any other way to explain it....it must be a miracle! There were no traces of the disease left in his body. He went over his test results again and again, to see if he was misdiagnosed as having ALS, but the results were true.

Even to this day when he visits his doctor, they have medical students and other doctors come to see him, and he is known as the only person to ever conquer the disease. There is always HOPE!

No other person in the world has ever beaten this horrible and incurable disease. Jean Marie, with the help of GOD did.

My grandfather is Jean Marie Adam, and I was witness to his first hand testimony about what happened to him. I saw him being consumed by Lou Gehrig's disease only to have him miraculously cured from an untreatable and crippling disease which has a 100% fatality rate. He is still alive and well today at 91 years young and living a very active lifestyle.

This is one of many miracles, wonders and happenings that have occured in my family over the last 300 years. I am sure there are many more stories out there to be told, and I will document what I can, but this is one that I was alive to witness. Our family is truly blessed!

Although we all experience the pain of losing a loved one, you can be sure that there is something after this life waiting for us and watching over us. Take comfort in knowing your loved ones ARE in a better place, and although you can't be together at this time, you will meet again in the future where you can live together again in eternal life.

So take some time to familiarize yourself with your family who came before you, for when it is time to join them in the afterlife, you will already be acquainted.
